Grete Rachel Howland’s poems and essays have appeared in Offerings, Tiny Buddha, Across the Margin, and Fault Zone, an anthology of the the San Francisco Peninsula branch of the California Writers Club. Grete’s first book, How to Leave the Church, was published by Apocryphile Press in 2024. She is currently working on her second book, a feminist reimagining of the Genesis creation myth told from Eve’s perspective, wherein God is the villain.

Grete earned a BA in English and Communication Studies from Westmont College, an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and an MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has taught creative and academic writing to students in middle and high school as well as undergradaute and graduate programs. In 2026, Grete was chosen to attend the GoodWorld Journeys salon in Patmos, Greece, featuring guests artists Barbara Kingsolver, Ada Limón, Safiya Sinclair, and Silas House.

Grete has lived up and down the West Coast, including Los Angeles, Portland, and the San Francisco Bay Area. She recently returned to her hometown of Santa Cruz, CA, with her partner and the thousand-ish books they have between them.
